MON, JULY 11 (MExN): The Konyak Union has raised serious concern over the repeated harassment and unwarranted checks faced by travellers from Mon district along highways in Assam, particularly by Assam Police personnel.
In a formal representation to the Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland, the Union highlighted that innocent commuters — including students, medical patients, and business persons — are being subjected to indiscriminate questioning, intrusive searches, and acts amounting to intimidation.
According to the Union, such actions have caused immense inconvenience and psychological distress to the people of Mon district, who rely heavily on these routes for essential services such as healthcare, education, and trade.
Describing the matter as a breach of citizens’ fundamental rights and interstate harmony, the Konyak Union has appealed to the Nagaland government to intervene at the highest level and engage with the concerned authorities in Assam to put an immediate halt to these practices.
The Union further proposed the setting up of a 24x7 grievance redressal helpline to assist Mon-bound travellers facing similar difficulties in future. Expressing confidence that the government would address the matter with due seriousness, the Union reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of its people.
