DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 30 (MExN): The Kuki community in Delhi and NCR undertook a mass rally today to protest against the reported inclusion of Kuki ancestral land in the proposed Naga Autonomous Council in Manipur and Assam.
A press release from the Kuki Students Organisation Delhi said that “it is a unanimous resolution of the Kuki people and their various organisations that not an inch of Kuki ancestral land should be included in the proposed Naga Autonomous Council.” It further demanded that a Kukiland Territorial Council be created prior to or simultaneously with Naga settlement.
The KSO said that the proposed Naga Autonomous Council under the ongoing talks between Naga political groups and the Government of India “includes eight districts of Manipur namely, Chandel, Tengnoupal, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, Noney, Ukhrul and Kamjong.”
“These districts were historically inhabited by both the Kukis and Nagas in equal proportion,” it stated.
It further demanded that the Government of India, who is undergoing talks with the Kuki armed groups, KNO & UPF, for a political settlement of Kukiland Territorial Council into enter into a similar agreement with them prior to or simultaneously with the proposed Naga Autonomous Council in Manipur. A memorandum to this extent was also forwarded to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
