Kuki Inpi appeals for PM’s intervention

Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): The Kuki Inpi today strongly appealed to come to rescue of the Kuki community being killed at the hands of their opponents and at the same time said that if the Prime Minister fails to intervene then the central Government would be held responsible for any communal flare-up.

A letter addressed to the Prime minister, Manmohan Singh by Jangmang Haokip, (the Chief of Moreh), President Hill Tribal Council, Moreh Hill Town, which was also made available here, strongly asserted that unless the central government intervenes and replaces all the IRB personnel by the Central forces till the situation is brought under control, there is a highly likely communal flare up to cost thousands of innocent lives. “When Mr. Rishang was the Chief Minister, Kukis were mercilessly destroyed. Now Ibobi is the Chief Minister and Kukis are being killed, their land illegally occupied. Will the Indian Government look at it with no action to prevent Civil War?” stated the letter to the PM.

The letter questioned whether the Prime minister is going to look at it and simply call it a communal conflict again.  In this regard, the Kuki Inpi said that the Central Government would be held responsible for any impending conflicts.  “If your Government (UPA Government) does not take immediate action to prevent this from happening the Central Government will be fully blamable and responsible for what has to happen. Your immediate action is the call of the situation in love and concern of innocent human lives” the letter stated.

It may be mentioned that the of Moreh town in Manipur bordering Myanmar has been in the news during the early part of this month due to ethnic clashes between the Kukis and the Meiteis. Many people were also killed during the unrest. Several Kuki organisations have also submitted memorandums and representations to the Indian government to intervene in the matter. This is the latest one of such letters and appeals to the Indian government though the Kuki Community is yet to receive any official response from the government so far
