Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): The Kuki Inpi today clarified that the request for official appointment with the Indian Prime Minister is in relation with the untold hardships and degradation and neglect undergone by the Kuki people since Indian independence from the British rule in 1947 and not necessarily with the recent Moreh chaos and bloodshed.
A press statement issued by the Publicity Wing of the Kuki Inpi was making a clarification with regard to a news item published in this paper on June 12 where the Inpi demanded meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking clarification for the ‘systematic degradation, the total negligence and marginalization’ of the Kuki people ever since Indian independence.
The Kuki Inpi, while making the clarification also stated, “The Kuki Inpi declaration is to be understood that the Kukis fight against the invading British was in defence of the present so-called northeastern India, the Region British did not colonized, left it to its indigenous population on the ground that the Kukis had never surrendered the land to the British umbrella Government. Therefore all the indigenous are still owners of the land defended by the Kukis. All the indigenous people have to stand together on the question of our land”.
