Kuki Tribal Union issues clarification on Feb 10 Chassad Incident

Manipur, February 12 (MExN): The Kuki Tribal Union under NSCN-IM on February 12 issued a clarification regarding an incident that occurred at Chassad on the night of February 10, 2026.

In a press release, the KTU/NSCN referred to what it described as “rumoured news reports” claiming that a Tangkhul Naga women’s team had attempted to torch and burn down the Kuki village of Chassad, and that Indian security forces were transporting Kuki militants from Burma (KNA-B) to Litan Sareikhong and neighbouring Sarkaphung village.

The organisation denied both claims. It stated that no Tangkhul Naga women’s team attacked Chassad village and that no Kuki militants were accompanying Indian security forces.

According to the KTU/NSCN, Tangkhul Naga women had rushed to stop and check security forces to prevent militants from entering their area and to maintain peace following two recent incidents in neighbouring areas. It said their intentions were misunderstood.

The KTU/NSCN also appealed to the public not to share or circulate the video related to the incident, urging people to delete it from their records and request others to do the same.

The organisation further stated that it would do its best to stabilise what it termed a “war-like situation” and maintain peace and harmony in the area.
