KUMU seeks urgent repair of Kokpang–Yei road in Mon Dist

MON, JULY 26 (MExN): The Konyak Union Mopong Unit (KUMU) has appealed to the Government of Nagaland and the concerned authorities to immediately address the deteriorating condition of the approximately 20-kilometre PWD road from Kokpang Junction (Border Road) to Yei Village under Mon district.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the Union said the road—the sole lifeline for at least eleven villages including Ukha Village, Ukha Changkhong, Ukha Lampong, Mopong (EAC Headquarters), Angchen, Yakshu, Kenjenshu, Changnyu, Yonghong, Yaphang, and Yei Village—has remained neglected for over two decades, despite its vital importance for connectivity to healthcare, education, and economic activity.

“The current condition of the road is abysmal, riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces, and nearly impassable during the monsoon,” the Union stated, adding that daily commuters—particularly schoolchildren, medical patients, and the elderly—face immense hardship.
The Union expressed concern that continued neglect has hampered rural development and severely affected the welfare of local residents.

KUMU has urged the PWD (Roads & Bridges) Department to prioritise this road by allocating funds for its comprehensive upgradation, including drainage construction, soiling, metalling, earth cutting, retaining wall construction, and blacktopping.

"Timely intervention will not only improve the quality of life for thousands but also reflect the government’s commitment to equitable development in remote regions," it added.
