The Kuthur Village Council organized celebration of Medümnyo festival of the Yimkhiung at Kuthur village in Tuensang on August 8 with H Zungkum Chang, ex candidate and Central Executive Committee member, NDPP, Nagaland as the special guest.

In his speech, the special guest emphasized on ‘building friendship and unity’ as the significance of the festival. He also noted the presence of elderly people in the village who have paved the way for the younger generation by passing down the torch of the cultural values. “It is because of them we are able to celebrate our festivals significantly,” he stated.

There are 15 elderly people in the village between age 90 to 100 years of age and he acknowledged them by calling each of their names.

“Festival is a time to remember the sacrifices, good things our ancestors have done or us and because of these important reasons, we could still celebrate the festivals and enjoy the color of life. It bears the message of goodwill,” he mentioned.

“Festivals are the biggest tool of unity. As a mark of this festival, we must keep the spirit of love and unity always alive. Then only there will be peace and happiness among neighboring villages” he added.

Zungkum also encouraged the youths to make use of their skills and to be self-reliant.

Speaking on the indifferences between Nagas he stated that, “We are in a state which is very delicate and we are living on the edge fearing that we might fall off it soon. There is a virus among us which is more dangerous than COVID which we cannot prevent and that is division, division among Naga brothers. Just like the divide and rule policy which the Britishers left for India after the independence, it is lingering within us and because of that there is no peace among different villages, society, family, and brothers.”

“Let us not grow hatred within our hearts. Our hearts are clean, so let’s sow the seeds of peace among us in our family, village and friends. Let us show the way of peace and unity,” he expressed.

The event was chaired by Lily and C H Amongba while invocation was spoken by Y Mongchim George, Pastor, Kuthur Baptist Borü. Welcome address was delivered by S Kejingkhum, Village Council Chairman, Kuthur village while the significance of the festival was shared by S Neojichung, 2nd Head GB, Kuthur village.
