The Kuzhami Union Kohima (KUK) today celebrated its 25th anniversary here at Ura Academy under the theme “Re Zo Thsüde.” Addressing the celebration, MLA Neiba Kronu urged upon the Kuzhami community to come forward and catch up with the fast changing world.
He said even though our number may be small, we have to live as one and as a good family so that other communities will praise us, he said. “We have a lot of potential,” he said adding, “We are second to none.” He also called up on the community to come across the table and hammer out whatever difference arises.
Kuzhalhü Zawe, President Mikha Lomi in his greetings called upon the community to sort out misunderstandings and reason together and also adopt the principle of “forgive and forget” of the past misdeed if any. He also urged the community to foster unity and become a role model in the society.
Further, Lomi urged Kuzhamis to rededicate themselves to love and cooperate with each other through this jubilee celebration for the unity and all round development of the community. “At the regional and local levels the Kuzhami Union is an active player and has immense potential to contribute in strengthening the unity and integrity of the Chakhesang tribe to which they belong, thereby setting a chain of reaction for the healthy growth of the Naga society and the world at large” penned MP Rajya Sabha K. G. Kenye in the anniversary souvenir.
M.K. Mero, commissioner & secretary for veterinary & animal husbandry released souvenir to mark 25th anniversary of KUK. The function will be chaired by KUK vice president Dr. Kewepfuzu Lohe while welcome address was delivered by KUK president Neilo Khape. Vote of thanks was proposed by KUK general secretary Er. Kemwvii Elah. Losami Welfare Union Kohima and Zapami Welfare Union Kohima presented folk songs. Rev. Khrotso Mero and Rev. Neikko Mero invoked God’s blessing.
Introduction of new office bearers for the tenure 2017-2020 was made by nomination committee convenor Welhitsolo T. Mero. President- Wepe Mekrisuh, vice president- Lengute Doulo, general secretary- Issac Losou, joint secretary – Neilhite Kapfo, finance secretary- Er. Khrozo Letro, publicity & information secretary- Kewe Kapfo, social & cultural secretary- Alo Sarah, treasurer- Er. Lhiwepe Khutsoh, women coordinators- Neingu-ii Marhu and Neipezo-u Naro. Advisors: Wepretso Mero, Kewechii Kapfo, Welhitsolo T. Mero, Kekhwezo K. Tara and Kewekolo Khalo.
KUK was formed in 1992. It aims and objective includes; to foster unity, integrity and fraternity amongst the members, to strife towards common goals and for the well being of the members, to pursue and achieve excellence in the field of education, economic and to attain ultimate all round human progress, to safeguard an extend solidarity towards the rights and interests of each constituent members, to promote, protect and preserve the social, cultural and traditional values and practices of the community, to extend healthy cooperation amongst the members and with other like- minded organizations and to propagate the need of peace and eschew any form of violence, misgivings and promote peaceful co-existence amongst all sections of the society.
The statistical data of KUK as on April 19, 2017 stands 3420 population of Kuzhamis in the state capital Kohima.
