Lozaphuhu (Phek) | Jan 11 : The 12th Phek Area Sports Association (PASA) sports meet got underway here at Lozaphuhu village, about 12 kms away from the district headquarter, Phek town on Tuesday.
Gracing the inaugural function, minister for Health and Family Welfare Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu called on the organizers to promote sports personnel in a bigger way. Resenting the slow pace of growth in the field of sports, Nienu emphasized the need for introspection among all stake-holders. "Sports discipline have not seen improvement as expected", he said adding, something must be wrong somewhere. He urged all the stake-holders to seek out the loopholes and address the issue ailing the growth of sports stating, "we need to seek out if the failings are with sports persons, organizers or the government". He urged the organisers and the patrons to utilize funds meant for sports promotion more judiciously and produce quality sports personalities who can win laurels for the state. He also called for follow up actions by organizing coaching camps and other trainings to hone the skills of emerging sports persons.
Also calling for a change of approach, Kuzholuzo urged all sports persons to better their discipline and be more committed to their vocation. "We need to be more sincere," he said adding the best of infrastructures alone cannot deliver, it needs quality sports persons.
Five villages Phek Basa, Phek village, Kotisu, Tuzatsu and host Lozaphuhu village are participating. The five-day tournament will culminate on January 15. The minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Phek, Mikha Lomi, SP Phek, W Krome, EAC Phek, Andrew, Ex MLA Ciekhutso, Phek Town Council chief advisor Shevotso, President NPF Phek division, Chivotso Nienu and village elders.
