Kohima, September 22 (DIPR): In commemoration of the Kohima Village Gazetted Officers Association (KVGOA) Silver Jubilee celebration, a one day awareness campaign on disaster response was conducted at Government Middle School, Seikhazou, Kohima Village on September 22. The awareness campaign was organized by the KVGOA and sponsored by the Department of Civil Defence and Home Guards (Kohima District).
Deputy Commandant General Home Guards & Civil Defence Nagaland, Kohima, Medozhalie Pienyü, in his brief introductory remark, stated that India is a land of disaster where there has been an experiences of multi disasters in the form of floods, drought etc. across the country. He highlighted the policy of Government of India on Disaster Management where he emphasized on the awareness and preparedness of disaster management.
He said that the role and mandate of Civil Defence and Home Guards was to create awareness on disaster management and to impart training to stakeholders who would be the first responders when disaster strikes. Stating that Nagaland State being in the seismic zone five in regard to earthquake, he stressed on the need to be aware of the instruction and guidelines during such disaster strikes and further added that a mock drill on do’s and don’ts would be practically carried out during the campaign.
President KVGOA, Er. Keviletuo Yiese while delivering the vote of thanks informed that KVGOA is celebrating its 25 years of completion on October 13, 2016 and to commemorate the celebrations, series of events have being organizing so far including today’s event. He thanked the Department of CD&HGs for partnering and sponsoring the event and also the School Teachers and students for their participation.
The School Head Teacher, Kikrulhoulie Khezhie also gave a short speech where he thanked the KVGOA for organizing the event and the CD&HGs department for coming forward and imparting such awareness to the teachers and students of the school. The programme was chaired by District Commandant HGs & CD, Kohima, Mulai Lamniah who also gave a power point presentation on mock drill which was followed by mock drill exercise in the second session. A demonstration cum training on disaster response such as Emergency Method of Rescue (EMR), Basic Life Support (BLS) and Uses of fire extinguisher was also carried out in the third session which was led by Sub Inspector, Vingutuo along with six trained Disaster Response Force personnel.
