DIMAPUR, JULY 16 (MExN): A one-day hands-on training on value addition of pineapple was conducted at ICAR-KVK Dimapur. The programme was coordinated by Dr Chingakham Sima Chanu, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science), KVK Dimapur, in collaboration with Green Hills Research and Development, Chümoukedima.
As part of the training, participants were given practical sessions on the preparation of pineapple RTS (Ready-to-Serve) beverage, pineapple squash, and pineapple jam.
Addressing the valedictory session, Dr Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, KVK Dimapur, encouraged farmers to enhance their skills in pineapple processing to prevent wastage during peak seasons and to boost their income. She also emphasised the importance of collaborating in more such training programmes in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Masabenba, Founder and Chairman of Green Hills Research and Development, urged farmers to make use of the skills acquired at the training to start their own food processing outlets, using pineapples from their fields as raw material. He highlighted the need for regular skill development programmes to enhance farmers' knowledge and capacity in food processing.
Dr Bendangla Imsong, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Breeding), KVK Dimapur, also encouraged farmers to take part in such initiatives to improve their skills, thereby paving the way for increased income through food processing ventures.
A total of 30 farmers participated in the training alongside KVK staff, including Dr Ebibeni and Dr Moanaro. The hands-on training aimed to equip farmers with practical skills for entrepreneurship development in the food processing sector.
