KVK Kiphire organised interactive meet of scientists, policy makers, implementing agencies and progressive farmers on May 21.
Kiphire, May 23 (MExN): Krish Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kiphire organised an interactive meet of scientists, policy makers, implementing agencies and progressive farmers in the meeting hall of 14th NAP IR Battalion at Kiphire on May 21.
The meeting was graced by Dr S Hazarika, Principal Scientist (Soil Science), & Head, DSRE, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam (Meghalaya) as chief guest and Dr Temsuwati Longkumer, Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire as guest of honour. The special guests included Dr H Kalita, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Dr SK Das, Principal Scientist (Fisheries), ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam (Meghalaya) and Vikee Lamoria, Commandant, 41 Assam Rifles, Kiphire and Dr Jyotish Barman, Scientist (Fisheries), ICAR RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre.
The meeting was also attended by district heads of Agri & aligned departments such as DHO, DAO, DFO, LRD, CVO, JICA etc; chairmen of four DFI (Doubling of Farmer’s Income) villages along with 20 representatives of DFI farmers; and representatives of ATSITSA society, one of the successful cooperative societies in Agri & Allied sector in Nagaland along with budding entrepreneurs in the sector.
In his welcome remark, Dr LJ Bordoloi, Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK, Kiphire highlighted the purpose of organising the event. Dr H Kalita in his introductory remark highlighted the role being played by ICAR & KVK in development of Agri & Allied sector in the district. Vikee Lamoria, Commandant, 41 AR in his remark pointed out the positive changes that can be brought about by concerted efforts of all the departments in remote districts like Kiphire.
Recognising the role being played by KVK, Kiphire for the benefits of the farming community and rural poor in the sole aspirational district of the state, Temsuwati Longkumer, DC, Kiphire stressed upon convergence of all the line departments for rapid and lasting improvement of livelihood of the people in the district. He urged upon ICAR and KVK for taking up projects for development of piggery and fishery sector in particular.
Dr SK Das highlighted the potential of fishery sector in the district pin pointing the steps to be taken for this.
Dr S Hazarika threw light on on-going and future precise activities of ICAR and KVK under agri & Allied sectors. He promised for release of funds under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) for taking up application oriented projects in the district. Each of the district heads of Agri & Allied departments shared their views through short speeches. There were also remarks from the DFI farmers and emerging entrepreneurs of the district.
Certificates of Appreciation were distributed to the 142 DFI farmers of the district by the chief guest and guest of honour. Certificates of Appreciation were also conferred upon two budding entrepreneurs Lumtsa and Rebecca. The event was concluded with distribution of inputs viz., fish fingerlings (50 packets) and poultry chicks (1000 numbers) amongst the farmers.
