KVK Kohima organises training

Kohima, July 7 (MExN): Training on ‘Citrus Orchard Management, Group Sustenance and Importance of Soil Health’ was conducted by the office of KVK Kohima on July 5 at Henbenji Orange Orchard under Tseminyu sub-division.  

Chairing the programme, K Michael Pienyu highlighted some of the mandates and activities of KVK to the farmers, according to a press release from Programme Coordinator, KVK Kohima.  

The programme had three technical sessions. In the first technical session, Longma Yanger, Subject Matter Specialist (Agri. Ext) spoke on the topic ‘Group Sustenance’ and highlighted the strength of unity and co-operation to the farmers for long term sustenance.  

The importance of soil health and soil health card was delivered by Zhiete, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Conservation). He encouraged the farmers to do soil testing before taking up any farming activity.  

In the last session, K. Michael Pienyu, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection) delivered a lecture on orange orchard management. He emphasised to the farmers to always use certified planting materials. He also discussed at length the management practices of pests and diseases of orange and also other factors which lead to Citrus Decline (Dieback/Necrosis).
