Longleng, October 24 (MExN): The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longleng celebrated the Mahila Kisan Divas on October 15 at the KVK office premise. Two successful women farmers were felicitated with cash awards and certificates for their contribution towards sustainable income generation in the field of livestock and food processing and value addition.
The programme also highlighted the role of women in agriculture, success stories by different women farmers and the constraints faced in agriculture and livestock management.
KL Meena, Senior Scientist and Head KVK, Longleng in his keynote address encouraged the women farmers to take up agriculture for sustainable income generation and to become producers rather than consumers through cultivation of high quality hybrid seeds suitable for the district and scientific knowledge of latest technology from KVK.
Harendra Verma, Scientist (Plant Breeding), ICAR RC for NEH Region Nagaland Centre, Medziphema highlighted on the protection of Plant Variety and Farmers’ Right Act, 2001 (PVFRA) and its benefits.
The programme was chaired by Lily Ngullie, SMS (Animal Science), welcome address by RK Roshan SMS (Horticulture) and key note address by. All together 76 women farmers from 8 different villages attended the programme, a press release informed.
