KVK Longleng showcases farming tech

Longleng, January 28 (MExN): During the 65th Republic Day celebration of Longeng district held at public ground here on January 26, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Longleng showcased their technology suitable for farming community in the district.   

A press release informed that Education minister CM Chang, the chief guest of the event, visited the KVK stall accompanied by Superintendent of Police, District Horticulture Officer and other dignitaries.  In the stall, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Programme Coordinator (i/c) explained about the functions and activities of KVK in brief to the minister. Dr. Kumar also elucidated on the scientific transfer of technology to the farming community and how its benefits the farmers for livelihood development.

Er. P Chowdhoury, SMS (Soil and Water and Conservation Engg.) enlightened on the scientific method of water harvesting structure-Jalkund, to cope up with the shortage of water during lean period in Longleng district. He also explained about the function and utility of farm implements suitable for Drudgery reduction in seed bed preparation, sowing, weeding and shelling of maize. E. Lireni Kikon, SMS (Plant Protection) explained about scientific mushroom production technology and their importance. Lily Rangnami, SMS (Horticulture) spoke on flower production technology and horticultural crop production technology. Thungchano S. Ezung, Programme Assistant (Home Science) explained about value addition aspect on Tapioca chips, orange and pineapple juice processing and ginger candy.

The release added that total fifty mushroom spawn were freely distributed to the farmers under Tribal Sub Plan Project (TSP). Model on “Lowcost Scientific Pig Sty Unit” and “Lowcost Scientific Poultry Unit” designed by Dr. Lily Ngullie, SMS (Animal Science) was also showcased for the farming community of the district, the note added.
