Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung conducted its Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting on January 24, for approving its Action Plan (2024-25) by the committee.

MOKOKCHUNG, JANUARY 25 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung conducted its Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting on January 24, for approving its Action Plan (2024-25) by the committee.
The meeting started with keynote address from Senior Scientist & Head, Dr Keviletsu Khate. This was followed by a presentation on highlights of the activities undertaken during the year 2023-24 based on the recommendation by the SAC in 2023 and followed by presentation of Action Plan of the Kendra for the year 2024-25 for deliberation and approval.
Some important recommendations given for Action Plan 2024-25 by the SAC members during the meeting include more trials on millets to authenticate the best time of sowing to reduce menace of birds, demonstration and promotion of better quality protein maize, revamping oilseed production in Tsurangkong block for better utilization of fallow period and cropping intensity per year under TRC.
More technology trials and validations on management of Jhum fallow, promotion of technologies on post harvest losses and storage losses for vegetables and field crops and inclusion of Chungtia village with Aliba and Kiununger villages for technologies application in remedying decrease in production of off-season cucumber were also recommended.
Under extension and outreach activities, the committee suggested more block coverage in technology application and dissemination, publication of block specific annual cropping calendar for farmers to enhance cropping intensity and district/block contingency plan to mitigate climate abnormalities and pest menace. On linkage of technology application and development, the committee suggested wider collaborative efforts with Allied departments to deliver specific need based solution to the farmers.
The closing remark and approval of Action Plan 2024-25 for onward submission to ATARI, Zone VII was pronounced by the Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee cum District Agriculture Officer, Mokokchung.
The committee members present during the meeting include Joint Director, SARS, Divisional Forest Officer, Chief Veterinary Officer, District Soil Conservation Officer, Assistant Registrar Co-operative Societies, District Sericulture Officer, Farm Radio Officer (AIR) and Sr Scientist & Head, KVK as member Secretary.
