KVK Peren conducts field day cum farmer scientist interaction

Peren, September 24 (MExN): KVK Peren under ICAR for NER, Nagaland centre conducted field day on maize RCM 76 cum farmer scientist interaction at Punglwa B village, Peren on September 23.

During the field day, Dr L Babita Devi, Programme Coordinator, i/c KVK Peren welcomed the farm women and congratulated them for their hard work and achievement. 

Theme and activities of the farm women were highlighted by Dr Patu K Zeliang, ACTO, wherein Maize RCM 76, a composite variety developed by ICAR Barapani was demonstrated in Punglwa village by engaging six Women SHGs comprising of 57 members. 

Resource person Dr Harendra Verma, Scientist PBG, ICAR Nagaland centre spoke on Seed production technology of maize and its prospects in Peren district. He advised the farm women to take up seed production along with grain production so that quality seeds will be readily available at their doorstep whenever required as well as gain economic returns from sale of seeds to neighbouring villages also.

James Kikon ACTO, spoke on soil nutrient management in maize fields and advised them to go for intercropping with Pulses for replenishment. During the programme, demonstration on hand maize sheller for reducing drudgery of the women farmers was also carried out. Secretary of the women SHGs federation, Mrs Paisui also gave a brief report about their activities and how maize was being used for feeding their Pigs for supply to Peren Pig Producers Company limited (PPCL, Jalukie).

 After the programme, Hand maize shellers and vegetable seeds were also distributed to the farmers.
