Phek, December 5 (MExN): KVK Phek, ICAR-NRCM celebrated World Soil Day with a theme ‘Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity’ on December 5 at KVK Training Hall, Porba. Soil Health Cards were distributed to the farmers of Upper Khomi, Pfutseromi and to students of CAU, Pasighat.
The programme started with an exhibition of farmer’s oriented technologies. The welcome address was delivered by Senior Scientist & Head In charge, KVK Phek.
An oral presentation on soil health management was delivered by Dr T Esther Longkumer, CTO (Soil Science), KVK-Phek where she emphasised on importance of soil health and soil biodiversity. Nezelu Nyekha, Executive Director, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society Pfutsero appraised the gathering on soil conservation methods and encouraged to maintain the soil health.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pfutsero, Phuleshe K Yepthomi stated that Nagas are agrarian society. He urged on innovative farming practices in relation to soil conservation and soil biodiversity and to follow sustainable agriculture.
A farmer-scientist interaction programme was conducted followed by distribution of vermicompost packets to the participants. The programme was chaired by Dr Hannah K Asangla and words of appreciation by delivered Keniseto Chucha.
