Phek, March 31 (MExN): A two-day farmer’s exposure tour was conducted on March 28 and 29 under National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA).
Altogether 15 progressive livestock farmers from Thipuzumi, Rikuzumi and Phusachadu villages of Phek District participated in the programme. The farmers were led by Dr Debojyoti Borkotoky, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Phek. The farmers visited various livestock units of ICAR Research Complex for NEHR, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema. The farmers were demonstrated on Artificial Insemination (AI) of pigs for better production and income. They also witnessed the poultry farms, hatchery unit and livestock waste management system in the farm. The farmers also visited intensive mithun farms under ICAR–NRC on Mithun, Medziphema. The participants also visited the Dimapur District Milk Producers Union (DIMUL) Ltd. and learned about the cooperative model.
Er. Meyieu Mero, Manager (P&QC) Dimul toured the farmers though the milk plant and informed about hygienic milk production and value addition. Dr Mhasizokho, CEO, DIMUL Dimapur inspired the farmers to adopt cooperative model in livestock and high value crops that will contribution towards socio-economic development, particularly their impact on poverty reduction, job creation, and social integration. The farmers expressed their gratitude to Director ICAR-NRC on Mithun and Sr. Scientist & Head KVK-Phek for providing the scope to witness the scientific, advance and farmer oriented technologies in livestock production.
