KVK Tuensang conducts training on ‘Soil Health & Fertility Management’

Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): Farmers from Helipong, Konya, Kejok, Angangba, Kuthur, Sansomong & Alisopur villages attended a four-day training programme on ‘Soil Health & Fertility Management’ in Tuensang from October 5-8.  

The training was conducted by the Division of Soil Conservation,  Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tuensang division at Chang Khulie  Setshang Hall, Tuensang.  

A press note informed that during the training,  the course in charge, Imtilemla SMS (Soil Conservation) covered topics like awareness on why and how to adopt soil conservation measures in the fields; different types of conservation measures; and why soil and water conservation is important for maintaining soil fertility.  

Other topics included soil testing for soil fertility management and soil sampling; fertilizers and principles of fertilizer application; Integrated Nutrient Management, nutrient technology package for pulse crops etc.  

Resource person Tokiho Achumi, SMS (Agronomy) presented slide shows on life in the soil and explained many benefits of soil flora and fauna and how all components work together and comprise the soil environment. He also covered topics on different ways to improve soil health and fertility.  

The other resource person, Seveto Nyekha (Program Assistant) also trained the farmers on importance and uses of biofertilizers, composting and vermicomposting. He said these methods are economically and practically feasible for the farmers of the district for maintaining a healthy soil.  

At the end of the training, the farmers were presented certificate by the Programme Coordinator Dr. Keviletsu Khate.
