
Kohima, June 11 (MExN): The Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) has reiterated its commitment to uphold the democratic rights of every citizen for the upcoming Urban Local Bodies elections scheduled on June 26.
While appreciating the wards under All Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat for Clean Election and upholding Kohima Village Council's resolution for Clean Election, ‘One Man, One Vote’, NVYO in a press release stated that reaffirms support to uphold the clarification received from the State Government vide letter NO.MAC-65/2016)PT-1)dated 16th March 2023 and subsequently the May 13,2024 clarification given by the State Election Commission, Nagaland, which clearly states that, "Any person who is a registered elector of a ward in a Municipal/Town Council is eligible to contest from any Ward of that particular Municipal, Town Council."
The Organization further requested the Panchayats under AKMWP to be a beacon of hope and justice for the younger generation, to be apolitical and that any guidelines restricting citizens to express their democratic rights, other than the Clean Election campaign and those prescribed under the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023 and the guidelines given by the State Election Commission, Nagaland shall be termed as anti-people and the sole responsibility will be borne by the concerned ward/wards.
