Irked by slow pace of work at Sanuoru Bridge in Kohima

Expressing resentment at the slow pace of work at Sanuoru Bridge in Kohima, the Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) today informed that from January 29 onwards they will resort to restricting movement of BRO/BRTF and government registered vehicles along High School junction via Sanuoru bridge to Nagaland Civil secretariat and Pezielietsie via DBS-Billy Graham road to Nagaland Civil secretariat.
KVYO president, Dzuvinguzo Mepfhuo told media persons here today that the restriction will be indefinite till an amicable solution is sorted out.
KVYO officials said that Sanuoru Bridge project was sanctioned under Central Road Fund (CRF) scheme by MoRT&H on December 19, 2015 and work order was issued on July 14, 2016 at an amount of Rs. 18,95,56,930. 18 months time was given, but work was not started in that period.
He added that due to incompletion of the work, public pressure increased and the department had also issued notification and served reminder to the contractor (January 2017, September 2017, January 2018 and April 2018) for execution of the work.
Thereafter, he said AG had given remark for cancelation of the work order following the expiry of the first work order. But the PWD (R&B) did not pay heed to it and instead, another 24 months was extended, he alleged. Another work order of 24 month extension also expired on January 14, 2020.
Stating that the KVYO has now lost patience, its president informed that they have been compelled to take this action of restricting the movement of vehicles.
He however informed that police/para military and any emergency service are exempted from the purview of the restriction. The KVYO meanwhile cautioned that any BRO/BRTF and Government registered vehicle plying on the said route would be doing so at their own risk.
It however assured that the KVYO would not obstruct the ongoing work of the project in any manner.
