Is the lack of independent, informed and objective information creating more confusion and division? Why?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:

•    Yes. The amount of rumors and unverified information floating around is misleading and creating more confusion. We are all drunk with false information and like a drunkard we are following it.

•    Yes. There is a so much of ignorance and lack of awareness in our society. There may be literacy, but there is no education and this is why without understanding our people will just emotionally jump in without thinking. This is why good leaders are needed in Nagaland.

•    Yes. More debates should be encouraged, starting from high school level.

•    Yes. I am sorry to say that we Nagas are uninformed, biased and confused with what is happening. We are blindly following the directives of a few individuals who are equally confused and mis-informed. We are more divided now.

•    Yes, when we are not aware and there is less objective information, we do not even know when we should reject and say No.It means we do not know when our leaders are misleading us.

•    Yes, lack of independent.

•    Yes, very much. Most of the public are not aware of the contents and meaning of Article 371A, or for that matter ULB election. Most people have just gone with the wind which is being led by few individuals. If our people were aware of their rights, this present situation would not have occurred.

•    Yes. Just reading the newspapers and the social media is proof that a lot of people dont know what they are talking about and the more funny part is that people believe them. We have ill-informed leaders and very ignorant followers.

•    Yes. People are so polarized because we don't think beyond our opinions floating within our own small circles. Each one is living in bubbles.

•    Yes. Some of the people including the tribal bodies is not well informed of the law of the land and the state govt. is bounded to obey the constitution to represent and run the state. Well little learning is dangerous at least for some people here.

•    Yes. Yes. This is so obvious. Everyone is writing only for their own interest and group. No one is trying to reason. The discussions in the social media are so concerning because most of the writers dont even know their own history and cant even get their facts right. Dis-information campaign is destroying us.

•    It is obvious, isn’t it. We are drowning in a pool of misinformation. India must be having a good laugh at the Nagas. How rumors, lies, deceit and arrogance is destroying the Nagas. In this situation two lies is equal to truth!

•    Yes. lack of proper information leads to insecurity for which people starts to gang up as org. unions and mobs in the name of democracy. This trend is becoming dangerous for our state. all this unlawful groupism should be BAN for good.

•    Yes, very much. For the ignorant mind, their interest does not go beyond the present moment. Their ignorance accuses everything beyond the immediate as idealistic.

•    Yes. We need 'local news channel', to keep official real time information.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:

•    Not necessarily, if elected members are moral beings, by now the probs in Nagaland should have been resolved but these are punch of AMORAL MLAs so very difficult to deal with any moral issues. Public are not misinformed but ism created by these mlas and some opportunistic tribal communities is creating confusion

•    Our Naga DNA of opportunism is creating more division and confusion and not lack of as you mentioned.

•    No. How can the people be informed when the government in the last 10 years has done nothing to educate the masses on the municipal act. This is ridiculous.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

•    Our Naga Brain cannot digest and interpret the present ISSUES ASSOCIATED with ULB. Because the issue is beyond Nagas everyday life. If from both side provide space to our own brothers and sisters living in other cities to explain the problem associated with such Act, government will not be able to survive even a day. The problem we are facing now is, like two friends who have never saw and experienced train and train travel explaining about it.

•    yes and no. yes because no matter what, Nagas are still far behind other communities of other world and thus ultra slow to comprehend and read the signs of the times. No, because our action/s and reaction is always in tribal line. even at the present juncture of ULB chaos, some tribal groups are not vocal just because they are expecting/assured CM post if he resign. Nagas can read the signs of the times only in line with our narrow tribal and community line.

•    We still have a long way to go. Nagas have jumped from A to Z and because we have missed out all the letters between A to Z, there is so much of confusion and distrust. With electronic and social media becoming so powerful, we have become exposed to so many new things and without having proper information we are making a lot of decisions based on speculations. This is leading us nowhere.

•    I don’t know whether is it because of selfish leadership or because of ignorance of the public that we have landed up in this most regretful situation.
