Dimapur, November 8 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) on Tuesday maintained that the incident at Lamhainamdi on November 7 happened “as a result of the state government’s inaction and indifferent attitude in maintaining its own order.”
In a press release, the WSH underscored that the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) had served a 21-day ultimatum to the state government to implement its order, failing which it would “take its own course of action.”
“The situation would have turned volatile had the Sumis not restrained or retaliated as eye witnesses account reported that many of the illegal encroachers at the illegal settlement of Lamhainamdi fired upon the protestors armed with guns fired behind from the IR personnel using them as human shield (Sic),” the WSH stated.
It demanded for “Immediate eviction of the illegal encroachers and maintain status quo at the disputed site as per the order No. GAB-1/333/2014(Vol-1) dated June 25, 2019 and order No. CNG-1/45/COM/KHEHOI/2018 dated July 8, 2019,” among others.
The WSH also demanded immediate suspension of the IR personnel and commander who allegedly opened fired at the protestors and provoked the situation to get worse.
“Since Kiyevi village falls under the jurisdiction of Chümoukedima district, all administrative and police arrangements should be deployed from Chümoukedima district,” it added.
Further, the WSH also demanded “Immediate arrest of the so called Lamhainamdi GB” who allegedly issued a statement with ‘inflammatory language’ in one of the news channels. Stating that such inflammatory language “should be dealt strictly as it will lead to further escalation on communal lines,” the WSH demanded that the person be arrested without fail.
