Land dispute at 6th mile; 10 injured

Dimapur | October 10 : Altogether 10 persons were injured including three schoolboys when a mob of around 100 persons allegedly attacked a residential area at 6th Mile Sodzulhou village with the purpose of taking control over the land on Monday at around 5:30 am. One Maruti car (NL/07-2137) was also burnt during the incident.
The Sodzulhou Village Council has given a 24-hour deadline to the Dimapur district administration and the police to apprehend the perpetrators failing which it has threatened to take law into its own hands by resorting to blocking the national highway.

According to members of Sodzuhou village, around 100 persons came in two buses, around 20 cars and started destroying the boundary walls, fencings and tree plantations at the plot of Late Dr. S. Hekha Mao. Security forces from the F. Coy 20 AR Kukidolong and IRB personnel who reached the spot could not intervene as pelting of stones and other objects went on until the mob dispersed at around 7 am. In the process, window panes of some of the neighbouring houses were destroyed.  
The village members accused one Kodolhu Chakhesang of leading the mob comprising of two parties to whom he mortaged the plot after taking loan from them.
They alleged that Kodolhu had sold the plot to Late Dr Hekha in 2007 for which payments have also been made. Even though the land did not belong to him anymore, he (Kodolhu) mortaged that particular plot to Er. Viravolie Rhetso of Viswema village and Tohokhu of Chekiye village, the village members said. They alleged that the mob brought along with them iron rods, dao, spears, hammers and other sharp objects and destroyed properties worth Rs 50, 000.
Further, they alleged that Kodolhu have been using different titles such as Koza, Mowo, The-o and Venuh for various “cheating purposes.” Kodolhu was reportedly the former Village Council chairman of 7th Mile.
Later speaking over phone, Sodzulhou Village Council chairman Mosa Koza said Monday’s incident was the third such happening carried out at the behest of Kodolhu within this year alone. Koza, who was also injured gave the names of some of those injured namely: Kodonyi, general secretary of Sodzulhou Students’ Union; Neikedo, Sodzulhou village Youth president and Isaya, treasurer of Sodzulhou Village Council. Koza said one of the village members received serious chest injury but added he was out of danger. He said all the injured were male.
