Landslide cuts power to Medziphema, surrounding villages

Damaged 33 kV AP1 Feeder power line at Tsiedukhru Range, where soil erosion triggered by ground instability has cut power supply to Medziphema town and surrounding villages.

Medziphema, March 30 (MExN): Power supply to Medziphema town and all villages under the Medziphema Electrical Sub-Division has been disrupted following severe damage to the 33 kV AP1 Feeder power line passing through the Tsiedukhru Range.

The damage was caused by soil erosion triggered by recent ground instability in the area, according to a press release issued by Er Viknozodlie Nisa, Sub-Divisional Officer, Electrical Sub-Division, Medziphema.

“The extent of damage requires thorough technical intervention and careful restoration work to ensure safety and long-term stability of the line infrastructure,” the release stated.

Departmental field staff have been mobilised and are working on a war footing to restore power supply at the earliest possible time, it added.

The Department expressed sincere regret for the inconvenience caused to affected consumers and requested the public to bear with the situation during the restoration period.

“The cooperation and understanding of all consumers during this time are highly appreciated,” it added.
