Dimapur, June 1 (MExN): In what it claimed as “the largest haul of this variety since statehood,” the Narcotic Cell of the Excise Department, on May 31, seized 3200 tablets of psychotropic drugs (amphetamine) from a NST passenger bus at Khuzama Interstate Excise Check gate, Kohima.
The Excise duty party under the command of Tiameren AIE manning the interstate Excise Check gate recovered the same from a lady passenger coming from Senapati, Manipur, Superintendent of Excise (NC) S Phyobemo Kikon informed in a press release.
The psychotropic drug - amphetamine and its derivatives is a potent stimulant and abused as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant, it said. The drug is also known by various street names such as `yaba', 'WY', 'speed', `orange' etc and used as party drugs and is suspected to be of Mynmarese origin, it added.
In this connection, one Lily Poumai (29 yrs) was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act 1985 and forwarded to judiciary, the release said.
Meanwhile, another Excise Department release informed that the Excise Mobile Squad Unit, on June 1, seized 629 capsules of spasmo proxyvon and 20 tablets of nitrosun from the possession of one Aboto Sumi. The accused has been charged tinder relevant section of the D&C Act, 1940 and the case has been forwarded to the Court, the Superintendent Of Excise (MS) Katoho Sumi informed. The same unit also seized a total of 1141 bottles of assorted liquor from different locations in and around Dimapur town area, it said. Investigations are on and the seized articles are kept at the Unit's Malkhana for evidence, it added.
