Naga Community Delhi pays glowing tribute to departed Naga leader

The Naga Community Delhi held a public condolence programme for late General (Retd) Kholi Chetkoh Konyak, Vice-Yaruiwo of the NSCN (IM) at Nagaland House, APJ Abdul Kalam road, New Delhi on Thursday.

Glowing tributes were paid by various leaders including Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, VS Atem, Emissary to the collective leadership, NSCN (IM) and organizations which include Naga Forum Delhi, DENSU, NSUD and tribe units.

Rio in his condolence message remembered Kholi as a “very simple, humble but a dedicated and committed person" whose wanted all Nagas to be united. “He didn’t talk much but we can see his sacrifice through his commitment and deed. He gave everything to us,” the Nagaland Chief Minister stated.

Rio, recalling the words of the departed Naga leader, said if Nagas do not forgive or reconcile, solution will never come. And even if solution did come, the future of the Nagas would be doomed.

VS Atem also remembered late Kholi as a humble, down to the earth, very patient and amicable leader to all people." “He never spoke about his position and family matter. His concern was about the nation,” he added.

NSCN (IM) Ato Kilonser, Th Muivah, Interlocutor to the Indo-Naga peace talks, RN Ravi were also present at the condolence programme. The mortal remains of the late Naga leader will arrive in Dimapur on Friday where a public condolence service will be held at Agri Expo, 4th mile Dimapur.

It may be recalled that the late General (Retd) Kholi Chetok Konyak passed away at Fortis Hospital at New Delhi on Wednesday after a brief illness. He was 90.

Hailing from Wangshu village in Konyak Region, Kholi was born on February 3, 1928 and joined the National Service in April, 1956. He was in the Naga national service under different capacities for 62 years.

A condolence message from the NSCN (IM), said late Gen (Retd) Kholi Konyak was humble national hero “who stood his ground to the last.”
