Despite the Kohima district administration, directing all shops and commercial establishments in Kohima town to remain open until 8:00 PM on all business days with immediate effect, many shops still fail to comply with the directive.

Many shops still practice the early closure of its establishment around 4:30 -5:00 PM.

An order issued by Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem on November 11 stated that the move for extended shopping hour is aimed at boosting business activity during the festive season.
The order instructs business owners to install adequate lighting and basic security measures within and around their premises during the extended hours.

The administration also stated that law enforcement agencies will intensify beat patrolling and surveillance to ensure the maintenance of law and order and public safety during the extended hours. Citizens and business owners have been requested to extend their full cooperation for the successful implementation of the directive.
