DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): The mortal remains of late Tsovori Rose, ‘Angh (governor), Chakhesang Province’ of the erstwhile ‘Naga National Freedom Movement’ was laid to rest at Thipüzumi village, Phek district on February 4. Thipüzumi village is the ancestral village of the late NNC leader.
Late Tsovori Rose, alongwith ‘captain’ Vatsühi of Kikrüma village, was killed by the Indian Armed Forces on March 19, 1961 at Hongku, present Jandalashung-B in Wokha. They were said to have been attending a ‘federal meeting’ before they met their death at the hands of the Indian Armed Forces. After a fifty year search their place of burial was discovered at New Jandalashung in Wokha and was exhumed on February 2.
Prominent leaders from the Chakhesang community attended a long overdue funeral of the departed leader at Thipüzumi while paying their last respects.
‘Kedaghe’ (president) ‘general retd’ Viyalie Metha of the FGN while remembering the sacrifices made by leaders like ‘Angh’ Tsovori in the service of the ‘nation’, called upon the present Naga generation to keep their legacies alive. Tsovori might have died an untimely death, yet he did his bid during his life, though short it might have been, Metha said. While reminiscing the early years of the ‘Naga national freedom movement’ and the ideologies of the pioneers like AZ Phizo and his contemporaries, Metha lamented that the present state of the Naga movement for freedom. It has now degenerated or rather broken up into several factions, he said.
Despite, he asserted that the people still stood as one ‘nation’, under one ‘yehzabo’ and one banner. He urged the Naga people uphold the sacrifices made by the predecessors for the ‘Naga nation’ and fight as one.
The “Naga national flag” was flown at half-mast at the family home while the FGN cadres honoured the departed leader with a ‘Guard of Honor’. The elderly folk of Thipüzumi also demonstrated their reverence the traditional Naga way, in full ethnic gear.

He founded Thipuzumi Students’ Union (TSU) in 1946, then subsequently, the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) in March 1947 alongwith Goyiepra Kenye, Rev. Zaduyi, Edisoyi Rose and Zashei Huire, eventually serving as its chairman/president.
