Law & order situation in Nagaland congenial: Patton

Dimapur, October 29 (MExN): Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in-charge of Home, Y Patton attended a two-day meeting of Home ministers and DGPs chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Harayana on October 27 and 28. 

According to a press release from the Dy CM’s Media Cell on Saturday, in his presentation, Patton said that ‘Chintan Shivir’ has put insights on matters concerning internal security, Law and Order, policing, border issues administration of prisons and other connected subjects. It also enhances everyone's capabilities and functions more effectively. 

Patton also stated that the general law and order situation in the state was congenial barring few stray incidents and crime rate in the state is one of the lowest in the country, as per the release. 

On the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), the Dy CM is said to have remarked that with the continuous improvements in law and order situation, there is reduction of coverage of AFSPA in the state of Nagaland by de-notifying 15 Police stations from seven districts. The state government on its part is geared up to take responsibilities of all the areas that have been taken out of AFSPA. State government on its part is also has carried out suitable enhancements in its capacities to put in place systems to respond appropriately and effectively to challenges arising due to this situation, it said.

As per the release, Patton said that Nagaland is the second state in the North East to launch a Tourist Police unit in 2018 for maintaining security and safety of tourists. Anti- extortion cells in all districts with a dedicated 24x7 control room at Police headquarters have been set up and as advised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the state police has also set up NCORD to control Narcotics Trafficking. 

The Dy CM also said that Nagaland Police is mindful of the new threats concerning security and law and order, emerging from Cyberspace.  National Cybercrime Reporting Portal complaints are taken up and investigated. A Cyber Crime Forensic and Training Lab has been established at the Police Training School at Chümoukedima, Dimapur, he informed.

Meanwhile, in one of the biggest seizure in 2021, Nagaland Police seized 290 gold bars estimated to be worth Rs 22.80 crore in market value, the Home Minister, adding that the Nagaland Police with all seriousness and accordance with law and order and policing, continue seeking valuable advice and kind guidance of MHA and the Union Home Minister for achieving even higher degree of success in every area, and particularly those that were deliberated on during the ‘Chintan Shivir.’
