Lazami serves deadline to NSCN-IM

Dimapur, November 30 (MExN): Exasperated that the NSCN-IM continues to remain silent, Lazami village has served the underground outfit with a deadline, December 2, in connection with the abduction of a carpenter by one so called “Lieutenant” Umesh Bihari and “captain” Rusu Jamie Chakhesang. The NSCN-IM is warned of an own course of action, if it fails to meet the demands made by the village.

Mention may be made here that earlier, Lazami village had demanded from the NSCN-IM the whereabouts of one Peter, a carpenter by profession, after he was abducted from Kohima by the said Umesh Bihari, who is said to be a “lieutenant” in the outfit. The village had sought information the whereabouts of peter, the motive behind his abduction etc.

The village council of Lazami and Lazami Students Union (LSU) in a joint press statement stated that the outfit has yet to respond. “…whether he is alive or (dead) and the reason for abduction. If he is (dead) or alive, give us information. Even if he is killed hand over the dead body to the relatives to perform last rites” a hurt Lazami village told the NSCN-IM in a statement from the two village organizations. “If the NSCN-IM authority fails to provide us information on or before December 2, 2007 we will take our own course of action…” the village made plain clear.

The village also took strong note of the said Umesh Bihari, a so called “lieutenant” in the NSCN-IM. Outsiders like him should not act as a master over the Nagas, reminded the village adding that the Naga people have enough intellectuals and manpower. “Why an outsider like Umesh should be allowed to act as the master over Nagas. Is he really working for our Naga sovereignty or for his personal gain? We strongly oppose the person like Umesh to work for our Nagas.” The village stated. Lazami held strong advice that Nagas should not allow such outsider to “dilute” the organization.

Further, the village has called for punishment for both “Lt” Umesh” and ‘captain” Rusu for misusing power and that such unscrupulous persons should not be allowed to “damage the image of the organization.” The NSCN-IM is given December 2 as deadline to respond or invite an own course of action from the village.
