Along with the rest of the Sümi community, the Western Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (WSBAK) under the leadership of Rev Dr Phughoto Sema, Executive Secretary today celebrated Tuluni, a premier festival of the Sümis at WSBAK Mission Centre Aküvüto, Thahekhu.

CL John, Minister for Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Village Guards who was invited as the special guest on the occasion, lauded the WSBAK's upcoming quest to establish a secular college on the lines of 'proper Christian discipline.'

Maintaining that festivals should not merely turn into merrymaking and feasting, John called upon the community to continue preserving and upholding one's culture and traditions with genuine Christian practices such as imbibing the true spirit of forgiveness, thanksgiving and prayer, for peace and harmony in the society. Such virtues need to be reflected during our celebrations, stated John.

As the community celebrate the season of plenty, John further urged the gathering to pick up the habit of 'work and eat culture,' which will realign us to understand the true sense of dignity of labor. 

The Minister also appreciated the well maintained surroundings and heartened the Aküvüto community to continue being an example of preserving and protecting the environment.

Earlier during the event, Rev Dr Phughoto Sema, Executive Secretary addressed and welcomed the gathering.

Highlights of the event included a traditional presentation 'Mhesho Shikipiye' and a special Indigenous act called 'Aghakütsa Ghushoghili Shikipiye' was performed by Nagagenous.

The programme was chaired by K Nifato Chishi, Secretary, Department of Youth Ministry. Kakheli Inato Jimomi, Secretary Department of Women Ministry pronounced the invocation and Rev Tovishe Sema, Secretary Department of Mission & Evangelism offered the benedictory prayer.

At Lazami village, Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (NSMDC) chairman, Kuputo Shohe today graced the Tuluni celebration.

In tune with the theme, "Deeply rooted in our culture," men and women folks, young and old, fully attired in colorful traditions, displayed the art of rice husking, cotton spinning, and the prowess of tilling for sowing, and war dance by the warriors of the village.

Shohe, who is also chief spokesperson, BJP Nagaland, expressed happiness over the unique cultural & traditional practice of Sumi community of Lazami village, the biggest village of the Sumi community under Zunheboto district.
Shohe was accompanied by NSMDC officials, NEPED chairman Supongmeren Hoki, Chairman & ST Morcha President Wanphong Konyak & BJP State officials.
