Leaders of Niuland and Nihokhu areas appeal to SF

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): Mass based organizations of Niuland and Nihokhu jointly voiced out against harassment caused to innocent public by a company of Assam Rifle personnel posted at Nihokhu while conducting road frisking between Niuland and Dimapur.

A joint meeting of GB’s Union, Students’ Union, Women Hoho and Sports Association of Niuland and Nihokhu areas was held at Niuland on September 17 wherein unnecessary grievance caused to the innocent public during frisking conducted by security force at Niuland road was discussed deliberately.

The meeting led by Nihokhu Area GB’s Union chairman, Heyito Achumi and Niuland Area GB’s Union chairman Shikaho Sumi pointed out that everyday hundreds of innocent public, which includes college students, GBs and village council chairmen, church leaders, government servants and even sick patients needing timely medical attention are traveling between Niuland and Dimapur. On many occasion students miss their classes, sick people are unable to see the doctors, and government servants including public leaders miss important appointments due to unnecessary delay caused during the frisking.

The meeting said the public of the two areas are not against the conduct of frisking, which is the rightful responsibility of the security forces, but the manner in which AR personnel of Nihokhu outpost conduct frisking is not something which the public (hill people as called by AR) expects from the “Friends of the Hill People”.

Taking all the aspects into consideration, the leaders of the two areas have fervently requested the concern authority to understand and respect the sentiment of innocent public and also see for the welfare of the public so that the public/villagers of the two areas could also co-operate with them and allow peace and unity prevail in the areas.
