A leaked precautionary ‘confidential’ letter issued by the Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare (H&FW), Nagaland on May 8 set the rumour mills rolling once again in Nagaland on May 9.

The letter, addressed to the district health authorities, was issued after samples of a medical student from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital as well as a 16 year-old girl, who passed away at the B Borooah Cancer Institute, tested positive for COVID-19.

It directed the Health authorities in the districts to get details of patients from Nagaland who might have been referred to or have returned from the two hospitals in Guwahati since April 24 “and take necessary action as per standard protocol.”
As on May 9 evening, the H&FW department maintained that it has not detected any patient or person, who has returned to the state from the GMCH or B Borooah Cancer Institute.

A H&FW official told The Morung Express that the Department got information of two patients from Nagaland linked to the B Borooah Cancer Institute. As per the latest update, the official said that they have not returned to Nagaland and was receiving treatment as out-patients and not admitted.

There was another scare, that of, central security forces personnel, turning up at the designated COVID-19 Hospital in Dimapur today for tests. A district Health official downplayed it while stating that it was precautionary sampling of personnel reporting to base after leave. While stating that they were sent back to their camp, the official maintained that they did not show symptoms and reiterated that it was a precautionary measure.

Military personnel are required to undergo mandatory 14 days quarantine on returning to their place of deployment in facilities set up by their units.
