
Dimapur, November 15 (MExN): “Learning Disorder is the major cause of poor school performance in young children,” Dr. C. Kezo, Nodal Officer, Mental Health, Dimapur said while informing that in order to help teachers to identify these issues and teach in ways those children can learn and also to guide the children to seek early help, the Dimapur District Mental Health Programme organised a one day training of Teachers on common mental illnesses in children on November 15 at Dimapur District Hospital Chapel Hall.
As resource person and Nodal Officer, District Mental Health Program Dimapur, gave the introduction and objectives of mental illness in children. He also presented the etiology and range of childhood psychological disorders. He stated in his presentation that a teacher is an applied scientist and by scientifically identifying the cause for poor performance and remedying the cause, a teacher can children with learning disorder. He also informed that in today’s age of technology, a new disorder has emerged; the internet gaming disorder which is affecting a lot of children.
Other resource person include Awheno, Clinical Psychologist, Nimhanu, Psychiatric Social Worker, Ms. Kezhano, Psychiatric Nurse and Rubeca, Community Nurse and they oriented the trainees on the various mental illnesses in children such as Learning Disorder, Mental retardation/intellectual disability, conduct disorder, disorders of social function specific to childhood and adolescence, psychosocial issues related to adolescence, emotional disorder, separation anxiety, school refusal, depression and general management in child psychiatry etc.
Earlier during the programme, Dr. C. Tetseo, Nodal Officer NTCP Dimapur delivered the welcome speech and the programme was chaired by Allo. About 40 teachers attended the training.
