LEED and LEEK appeals

Dimapur, March 29 (MExN): The Lotha Eloe Ekhung Dimapur (LEED) and Lotha Eloe Ekhung Karbi Anglong (LEEK) highlighting the “factual realities” of the alleged rape incident which happened on January 12 have stated that the incident was reported to the police on January 13 evening. The victim had gone to the Women Cell (Police), Dimapur with her family members to complain about the incident against three accused persons, “one among them happened to be her boyfriend.”

LEED and LEEK in a press statement appended by the respective presidents added that “much has been publicized about the incident in the press and various allegations have been made against the women police which has been blown out of proportion.” Furthermore, “it is learned that women police who were on duty on the day of reporting the incident have been placed under suspension for some reason or the other.”

In light of this, the two women unions while “unequivocally” condemning the “barbaric” rape incident and expressing sympathy to the victim and her family have appealed to the authority concerned for a “fair and impartial approach in dealing with the issue and re-evaluate the circumstances to safeguard the dignity of the victim and that the women police on duty are not
victimized.”
