Kohima, February 9 (MExN): The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) organized inauguration of legal aid clinic cum legal awareness programme at Old ADC office, Tseminyu on February 8.
The legal aid clinic was inaugurated by YM Imchen, NJS, Chairman, DLSA and District & Session Judge, Kohima. Imchen highlighted the importance of having a legal aid clinic, where people go and receive help. He ensured the people of the area that such activities will continue and encouraged them to get maximum benefit out of these governmental programmes.
The programme was chaired by Hisinlo Himb, Panel Lawyer, who in his opening remark said that the people of Rengma area should make full use of the legal aid clinic and come forward to clarify their doubts on any legal issue and make the best use of the facilities given to them at their door steps. He further stated that laws are made for the people and therefore one should abide by it instead of taking law into one’s own hands.
In her welcome address, Vikhweno M. Meratsu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Tseminyu thanked the KDLSA for taking the effort of opening the legal aid clinic. She mentioned that every citizen needs to know the laws and regulations of the State because ignorance of laws brings a lot of chaos and disturbance in the society. She urged the authority to continue to sensitize the people so that peace and harmony will prevail amongst the people.
Two resource persons- Kelhriengulie, Retainer Lawyer, and Zheviholi Swu, Advocate, HRLN, spoke on Village Council Act and Child Rights respectively and highlighted the different provisions of law.
The programme was followed by interaction with Dobashi, Goanburas and village council.
