Kohima, August 13 (MExN): Four NPF legislators from Kohima district today condemned the ultimatum issued by the NPF Youth Wing of 10 Northern Angami-I A/C on August 12 directing the temporary office of the Rio led NPF Central HQs to shut down on or before August 13.
In a press release, MLAs Dr. Nicky Kire, Er. Vikho-o Yhoshu, Er. Kropol Vitsu, and Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu said that since the office of the NPF president had come under dispute, a decision was made to open a temporary office of the NPF Central HQs at Legacy Complex, Bayavü, Kohima till such time the matter is settled either by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu stepping down as the president or through a verdict of the Election Commission of India. “Till the matter is settled, it is both constitutionally as well as legally allowed for the present temporary office to function out of the present location,” they stated.
It pointed out that the office has been established in a private property owned by a private individual and not on a property owned by the said Assembly Constituency. “Just because the area falls under the said A/C that does not mean that they are the sole authority as every ward has its own Panchayat that looks after the welfare of the area and not the A/C.” Similarly, it questioned, “does it mean that the NPF Central office need to take permission/approval from 9 A/C to be established and function?”
The legislators reminded that there are duly authorized institutions approved by the Government to decide what or who can or cannot be allowed to function in any location/area, of which a political party of an Assembly Constituency is not one of them.
“It is therefore advised that instead of resorting to methods of threat and intimidation, the members of the Youth Wing 10 NA (1) A/C decide whether they want to be in the minority group or join the majority group that has the support of more than 2/3rds of the NPF MLAs (36 out of 48) and the Government,” the release added.
