Legislators should resign to pave way for solution: ACAUT

Calls for citizens to take part in NPAC public rally

Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): As a sign of solidarity, the Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland has appealed to all right-thinking citizens to take part in the August 5 public rally called by the Nagaland People's Action Committee (NPAC) to demand an honourable Indo-Naga political settlement from the Government of India without further delay.

In a press release on Wednesday, it called on the citizens of Nagaland to rise to the occasion “during this important timeline of transition in our society.”

It also said that it was time “for all the 60 members of 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly forming the opposition-less United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to resign en masse to prove their sincerity in paving the way for solution before the coming election.”

Noting that there has been a ‘welcome surge’ of public movement in various forms, ACAUT stated that it has been “holding steadfast to the public declarations of October 31, 2013.”

“The public outcry of ‘One Government One Tax’ as an antidote to unabated taxation and the submission of the High Powered Commission report against corruption, can't be completely fulfilled until the Government of India expedite the Indo-Naga political settlement without further delay,” it added.

It recalled that ACAUT was part and parcel of the Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations along with all political parties and Naga Political Groups (NPGs) that stood for ‘Solution before Election’ in 2018. “It was with the intervention of Ram Madhav the then BJP In-charge of North East that mooted ‘Election for Solution’ and went ahead with the election, so now the ball is in the court of the BJP,” it said.

Stating that the public of Nagaland “cannot be taken for a ride anymore,” ACAUT stated that was now “the right time for the citizens to prove their support to any genuine movement or organization that take the responsibility for demanding early political settlement.”

Along these lines, it also reiterated its suggestion that the public discussion of the ‘Agreed positions’ and the ‘The competencies’ through the apex tribal hohos should be held with certain deadline. “The completion of 25 years of Cease fire without producing any tangible solution and its continuation will defeat the very purpose of the hard earned Ceasefire and may turn out to be a double edged sword for all,” it said.

Further, ACAUT maintained that the general public has had enough of the “chronic unabated taxation by twelve different Naga political groups that have made the daily life of every citizen miserable and unbearable.” The Naga public wants early political settlement without compromising the Naga historical truth and rights, so that the present generation will not be caught in a doldrums of hopelessness, it added.

DCCI, DDCF appeal to down shutters on rally day
In view of the proposed public rally called by the Nagaland Public Action Committee on August 5, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & industry (DCCI) and the Dimapur District Citizens' Forum (DDCF) have appealed to all the business establishments within DCCI jurisdiction to down shutters from 10:00 am till the rally is over.

The rally has been called by NPAC to press for an early Naga political solution.

The two organisations have also requested the business community and the public to extend solidarity and support by taking part in the rally.

It also appealed to the participants to compulsorily wear face masks while attending the rally.
