The Jalukie Valley Youth Organization (JVYO) organized its get-together-cum-picnic here at Jalukie Students’ Union Central Park, some five kilometers from Jalukie town, on Saturday.
The occasion was graced by eight parliamentary secretaries, chairman and advisor including S Chuba Longkumer (Veterinary & Animal Husbandry), Kejong Chang (Horticulture and DB & GB), YM Yollow (CAWD), L Khumo (Land Resources, VG and Women Resources Development), Er. Levi Rengma (Housing), Amenba Yaden (Industry & Commerce), Naiba Konyak (advisor NBDA) and Dr. Longriniken (chairman DAN and NRBM).
More than 1,200 people from Jalukie valley comprising of 18 villages and Jalukie town attended the get-together programme, which was sponsored by Masangum, PS to Nagaland Chief Minister.
Parliamentary Secretary, Chuba, who had served as BDO in Jalukie for several years, recalled his fond relationship with the JVYO as Advisor. In his address, he said that the youth organizations can initiate a lot of developmental activities be it in the human, social or economic fronts.
He also said whatever critics may say, one has to accept that the NPF-led DAN government under chief minister, TR Zeliang, has created a record in the country and perhaps in the whole world, by running a democratic government where there is not a single opposition.
Chuba also reminded that the historic “Framework Agreement” between the Government of India and NSCN (I-M) was signed during the tenure of TR Zeliang as chief minister, thereby vindicating DAN government’s commitment to act as “facilitator” to the peace process.
Referring to the past crisis within the NPF party over the issue of chief ministership, Kejong Chang said the majority of NPF MLAs chose TR Zeliang to lead them not because of any other considerations but because he had “brains” to lead the Nagas as a whole. He also said Zeliang was a unifying factor among the NPF MLAs.
The oldest member in the present Assembly, Chang, 93, promised to return in the next House saying that though old, he is determined to continue to serve the people of the State. “I may be old, but I am not going to Heaven any time soon,” he quipped.
Yollow Konyak said the youths should not shy away from works but remember the dignity of labour. He also urged JVYO to extend support and cooperation to the state government to ensure development on all fronts.
L Khumo said instead of appreciating and encouraging leaders, Naga people have the tendency to criticize their own leaders, especially from their own tribes. He urged the youth to give up this negative aspect and instead invest their energy in fostering unity among themselves and Naga society.
Er. Levi Rengma said majority of the NPF MLAs representing various Naga tribes had chosen TR Zeliang to be their leader and so TR Zeliang is not the sole “property” of a particular tribe but Naga people as a whole. “By criticizing our chief minister, you are also criticizing other Naga tribes who have reposed their confidence in TR Zeliang to be their chief minister”, he said.
“We (other Naga tribes) are fed up of hearing and reading the criticisms to the chief minister from his own tribe. When the rest of Nagas and all ENPO MLAs are behind TR Zeliang, why should there be opposition from your side?” Naiba questioned.
Longriniken said Naga have together raised TR Zeliang to the highest pedestal and it would be great loss to Zeliang people in particular if they try to pull down their leader as the Zeliangs may never get another opportunity to lead the state.
Amenba Yaden also exhorted the gathering to forego negative criticisms.
The JVYO and Jalukie Students’ Union also submitted representations to Parliamentary Secretaries S Chuba Longkumer and Kejong Chang respectively.
Earlier, JVYO president, Machigwang Mpom, delivered the welcome address and Masangum introduced the 8 legislators to the gathering.
