
DIMAPUR, JAN 28 (MExN): The Lekroma Village Council (LVC) as per the direction of the District Administration and in fulfillment of the resolution of Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) has successfully implemented the cattle control, jungle burning, community cultivation projects and community grave yards during 2005.
In adherence to the CPO, Lekroma Village has implemented the cattle control since March 2005 both in letter and spirit, which facilitated the village community for double cropping and crop rotation, stated kedupe Kapfo, Chairman Lekroma Village Council in a release. In this regard, the Village Council has urged the concerned authority to pursue neighbouring villages to implement the same resolution without which total cattle control in the area is not possible.
While assuring that it has successfully implemented prohibition of jungle burning, the village council stated that as a follow-up action plan, it employed vigilance guards, who were paid Rs. 3000/- per month by the Village Council. Kedupe stated that vigilance guards kept strict vigil from February to April every year in the village jungle areas since 2000. The village has also established a community graveyard covering an area of 3 acres located at a distance of 1 Km north of the village, stated Kedupe.
With the Government of Nagaland declaring the year 2006 as a Year of Farmers, the village community has also officially adopted to take up community projects for cultivation of potatoes, cabbage, garlic, Nadia ginger and large cardamom etc stated the release.
