Longleng, May 31 (MExN): On World No Tobacco Day, an awareness programme was held at Lempong Hostel Longleng to educate students on the dangers of tobacco use and manipulative tactics employed by the tobacco and nicotine industry.

The programme, held under the global theme “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products,” aimed to “expose the strategies used by the tobacco industry to attract young consumers and to raise awareness about the health risks associated with tobacco and nicotine use” stated a press release issued by the CMO office Longleng.
The resource person, Dr Nichukholie Vupru addressed the gathering and delivered an insightful presentation on the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine. He urged the students to be vigilant and critical of the marketing tactics used by the industry, which often target youth through misleading advertisements, flavoured products, and digital media.
Dr Vupru emphasised the importance of youth engagement in the fight against tobacco use and encouraged students to become ambassadors for a tobacco-free future. “Creating awareness at the grassroots level is key to protecting future generations from the grip of addiction.”

The programme concluded with pledge to spread awareness among their peers and communities.
