Mokokchung, July 17 (MExN): A tree plantation drive was organized by Lemsachenlok, Longleng in collaboration with Akhoya Students Union, Mokokchung along the stretch from Dikhu River to Changtongya on July 15.
Y Nuklu Phom, Chairman, Lemsachenlok and team leader mentioned that the ecosystem has been misused by humans because of which nature had come down so heavily upon us today.
He said that in the last few years, people are witnessing mud slides, drying of ancestral water ponds and well, attack on farmers crops by alien pests and insects and all these are the outcome of extreme human pressure on bio-diversity. He added that one of the initiative and concern in safeguarding the environment is tree plantation, without which the deterioration of ecosystem will be very swift leaving humanity at risk.
The team also informed that the tree plantation exercises started since 2010 investing lakhs of rupees every year.
However during road cutting by companies all the trees which were formerly planted were damaged.
The collaboration with the Akhoya Students' Union is one of many collaboration of Lemsachenlok. Lemsachenlok has also planted several trees from Dikhu River under the jurisdiction of Yaongyimchem village towards Longleng- Tuensang Road. Sakshi and Auching students union has also initiated plantation drive in collaboration with Lemsachenlok.
