LEMSACHENLOK inks three separate MoUs on World Environment Day

Longleng, June 5 (MExN): LEMSACHENLOK, in collaboration with Kalpavriksh, Kenono Foundation, and ICCA Consortium South Asia observed World Environment Day at Yongshei village, Longleng with the theme ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ on June 5. 

During the event, LEMSACHENLOK signed three MoUs with: Fazl Ali College, the ICCA Consortium, and Naam Foundation.

Speaking as the special guest, Ganesh Thorat Data, CEO of Naam Foundation said that environmental action can bring both ecological and social benefits. He also stressed the importance of villager’s ownership of environmental stewardship.

In a session, Dr P Tiatemsu Associate Professor, Department of Botany FAC, Mokokchung stressed the danger of using plastic and its effects on the present generation.

Addressing the gathering, Ruchinilo, Chief Executive, Kenono Foundation introduced their initiative that supports and focuses on livelihood and also conservation. He stated that the foundation aspired ‘reaching out to the world through our own people, our own NGOs, telling the stories of our fields and forests and about our own land directly or indirectly using the social media platform.’

The programme featured a diversity of voices from grassroots leaders to policymakers, including from the Chokhaba community. 

In his address, Dr Y Nuklu Phom highlighted the initiatives of LEMSACHENLOK, local perspectives, biodiversity conservation, importance of preserving forests by identifying and managing resources. He shared the visions of Biodiversity Peace Corridors and transborder biodiversity managed by indigenous communities.

Essay and painting competition was also held for the youth. Other highlights were the inauguration of Community Fishery and launching of Biodegradable Poly Bags.
