One leopard was killed in an alleged retaliation from villagers after the animal attacked a villager. The incident occurred on the morning hours of June 16 at Akumen village falling under Mangkolemba ADC sub-division, Mokokchung. According to a district administration official, one man in his 50s was attacked by a leopard while on his way to the jungle. The official said that the man, identified as Tongpanglemba, sustained injury on the head. The villagers in retaliation hunted down the leopard, it was added. The injured man was taken to a hospital in Jorhat where his condition was said to be stable. The official added that dobashis have been deputed to the village to take stock of the incident.
