Kohima, October 21 (MExN): The Lerie Youth Organization (LYO) celebrated its Silver Jubilee under the theme ‘Honouring the Past and Shaping Our Future Together’ at St Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Lerie, Kohima on October 20.

The LYO Jubilee Monolith was unveiled by Vilelie Khamo (Class I Contractor), followed by the Act of Blessing led by Head GB T Peter Solo, and Prayer of Blessing by Nozo Mekro. The formal session commenced with invocation by Rev Fr Anthony Dukru, Principal of St Mary’s Cathedral HSS, stated a press release.

In his welcome address, Kuko Nuh, President of LYO, reflected on the invaluable contributions of the pioneers and emphasized the importance of unity, togetherness, and community progress.

As part of the celebration, presentations were made to all past and present presidents and general secretaries of the organization. The LYO also honoured the families of its late members in recognition of their lasting contributions.

Greetings were shared by Ward 16 Councillor Ane-u Khaming, Kevilezo, Chairman of Lerie Council, and Neizokhono Tahlem, President of Lerie Women Organization. Hojoho Mekro, the first President of LYO, shared memories of the organization’s early years.

A special prayer for the youth was led by Pastor Saku Tzudir of KABA Lerie while LYO Silver Jubilee Souvenir was unveiled by the dignitaries.

Delivering the special address, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, lauded the LYO for its steadfast contributions toward community development and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to empowering the youth.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by Newman, General Secretary of LYO, and a benediction by Pastor Kughavi Chisho of Sumi Baptist Church, Lerie.

The LYO marked the grand conclusion of its 25th Silver Jubilee celebration with an evening gala which was graced by Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, 9th Kohima Town Constituency as the special guest. Some of the artists who performed at the gala were Hopong Naga and Divine Connection, Keduo Kire, Sue, Grand Distortion Band, and Methasio Zhale.
