Mon, August 6 (MExN): Mon District Administration has initiated the ‘Let Live’ Campaign under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme with the primary objective of fighting illegal sex determination. This initiative is a first of its kind in the state to create community level awareness and participation on the evils of sex selection and abortion.
Under this, an exclusive helpline number ‘6009150274’ has been setup so that cases of illegal sex determination can be reported. Other key features of this initiative being that informers will be rewarded and his/her identity will be kept confidential.
The Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act gives this initiative its legal tooth as offences under this act are cognizable, non bailable and non compoundable.
Mon district has the second worst child sex ratio in the State and hence improving the sex ratio at birth (SRB) remains the primary goal of BBBP Mon.
