Letter to PM demands deferment of elections

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): As reported in the Morung Express earlier, the Opposition parties in Nagaland led by the Congress had a joint meeting on January 5, 2013 at Dimapur and decided that the Government of India should give more importance to the ongoing political talks between the GoI and the Naga national groups and expedite the Naga peace talks to a logical conclusion which will be honorable and acceptable to all sections of the society.

This was part of a representation addressed to the Prime Minister of India calling for deferment of State Assembly elections. The letter to the PM was signed by NPCC President and MLA SI Jamir, President, BJP Nagaland Dr M. Chuba Ao, President JD (U), Nagaland Mhonjan Lotha, PAC Member & Youth President NCP Nagaland Chonben Yanthan, Convenor, TMC Nagaland Er Senkathung Jami and President, RJD Nagaland Khetovi Kinny.

The letter to the PM also pointed out that in view of the ongoing Naga peace talks and the strong sentiments of the Naga public in favour of solution and not elections at this juncture, the signatories of the political parties strongly demanded that the Government of India defer the State Assembly elections until the solution to the vexed Naga issue is arrived at between the GoI and the Naga national groups.
