DIMAPUR, APRIL 30 (MExN): The Disaster Management Club & the IQAC of Livingstone Foundation International College in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force conducted a Mock Drill on disaster preparedness in the college on April 29. 

According to a press release, a team of 20 members led by Angukato K Yeptho, ASI, Civil Defense& Home Guards Dimapur, carried out various activities. Prior to the drill and activities, he emphasized on the need for Nagaland to be prepared on any eventuality of disasters especially earthquakes as we fall under active Seismic zones. 

He further said that even though the state has well trained & prepared professionals to tackle disasters that can occur in the state, it is necessary for young students also to have the basic skills to be rescue-ready if any need arises in the future.

Series of exercises were carried out by the team along with the teaching faculty & students of the college. A mock drill and evacuation preparedness during earthquakes was conducted wherein the students and faculties had to exit from the classrooms to a safe zone taking all safety measures. 

The team also demonstrated on how to provide first aid to injured individuals before the arrival of rescue team, applying bandages to different kinds of injuries and how to make basic improvised rescue equipments with available resources at hand for rescue. 

The last session witnessed demonstration on how to carry out a CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for adults as well as infants.

The programme started with an opening remark from L Achilo Kikon, IQAC Co-coordinator and ended with a note of thanks from Imti Yaden, Co-ordinator Disaster Management Club. Yaden in his concluding remark thanked Mhalo Humtsoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner & CEO, DDMA and the District Commandant, Civil Defence, Home Guard and SDRF personnel for providing with the logistic support and their co-operation in order to carry out the programme in the college.
